About Eastern Highlands
The Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe are a breathtaking mountain range stretching along the country’s eastern border with Mozambique. This lush, misty region is known for its cool climate, rolling hills, dramatic granite peaks, and dense forests. It includes three main areas: Nyanga in the north, Chimanimani in the south, and the central Bvumba Mountains. Nyanga is home to Mount Nyangani, Zimbabwe’s highest peak, and the majestic Mutarazi Falls. Chimanimani offers rugged hiking trails, crystal-clear rivers, and remote wilderness. The Bvumba Mountains, near Mutare, are famed for their botanical gardens, coffee plantations, and sweeping views into Mozambique. With its scenic beauty, diverse flora and fauna, and cooler temperatures, the Eastern Highlands provide a peaceful retreat and a haven for hikers, birdwatchers, and nature lovers.
