About Hwange
Hwange, located in northwestern Zimbabwe, is famed for its proximity to Hwange National Park, the country’s largest and most diverse wildlife reserve. Covering over 14,600 square kilometers, the park is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, particularly its elephant population, which is one of the largest in the world, with over 40,000 elephants roaming the park. Visitors can also expect to encounter the "Big Five" — lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, and rhinos — along with a variety of other iconic African animals such as cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, hyenas, and antelope.
In addition to its iconic wildlife, Hwange is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with more than 400 bird species making their home in the park, including rare species like the southern ground hornbill, African skimmer, and the martial eagle. The park’s diverse habitats, from sprawling savannahs and woodlands to seasonal wetlands and waterholes, provide the perfect environment for a wide range of animals and birds..
